Atlanta is a thriving metropolis of fun activities and cultural events year round. A melting pot of southern tradition fused together with new western influences and a hip urban scene that make the city diverse and eclectic. There is always something to do or see and a variety of social gatherings that appeal to everyone.
Don’t worry about spending tons of money and time traveling this summer. Catch up on your “me time” and enjoy all the things you love doing close to home and fall in love with your city all over again.
We have compiled a list of upcoming events in and around Atlanta that will fill your summer calendar with tons of exciting things to try right in your own backyard.
JUNE
- India Festival – Also known as The Festival of Chariots, this will be a big parade that dates back to the East Coast of India over 2,000 years. Ethnic food, traditions, dance, art, yoga and shops with hand crafted goods. This is a free festival and will be held: June 5 – 7, 2015 at Olmsted Linear Park.
- Renaissance Festival– Enjoy the best of medieval times with this recreation of an era in history. Walk with Knights and Maidens and enjoy all the music, food and entertainment of the time period. There are over 150 artesian vendors and endless entertainment. Feast on Turkey legs and ale and take in a jousting match. First weekend in June and is held in Fairburn.
- Butterfly Festival– This amazingly unique festival releases hundreds of butterflies. There is also a butterfly encounter, crafts, parade, live music and a food truck parade. Costumes will also be on display. Event will be held: June 6 – 7, 2015 at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell.
- Alpharetta Street Party– Celebrating the historic downtown Alpharetta, come and sample local restaurant fare, music, beer and wine. Come and celebrate the Brew Moon Countryfest.
- Summerfest – The Virginia-Highland summer festival includes a 5K run on historic Virginia Ave. and a kidsfest. There are tons of things to do like: art, music, food and vendor fair. It’s held the first weekend in June.
- Lavender Festival– Arts, crafts, antiques and food and of course lots of lavender. There is a beer & wine garden at the festival and the event will be at Barrington Hall in Roswell. It’s free admission and the event will be held on 6-13/2015.
- Jazz on the Lawn – All types of Jazz from: swing, contemporary, fusion, smooth and blues that can be heard. There will be food and drinks and it being held 6/12 & 6/26 2015 at Callanwolde.
- Sci Fi Summer Con– Games and gaming contests, special guest stars, comics, horror shows and full sci fi and fantasy genre displays. 6/12 – 6/14, 2015 and will be at Holiday Inn North Perimeter.
- Sottish Festival– Enjoy Highland games and Scottish heritage at the Blairsville Scottish Festival. Dancing, food and music. There will be athletic games and historical demonstrations, this will be held on 6/13 – 6/14, 2015 in Blairsville.
- Bicycle Festival– The Atlantic Cycling Festival will be held through 6/13 – 6/20, 2015and has bike ride, classes and networking with riders of all ages and abilities.
- Tattoo Expo– Featuring local and national tattoo artists, vendors, art displays and tattoo advances. There will also be food and entertainment to be held at Wyndham Galleria Atlanta on 6/19 – 6/21, 2015.
- Summer Beer Festival – Countless beers and samples (over 200), multiple stages with live music and tons of food. This will be held outdoors on 6/20/2015 at The Masquerade.
- Peachtree Corners Festival – Craft shows, food vendors, car show, live music, marathons and activities. 6/12 – 6/14, 2015 and admission is free.
- Battle of the Bands – This is a battle of all lawyer bands and you can participate by voting. There is snacks and drinks and assorted vendors held on 6/27/2015 at Variety Playhouse.
- Arts Festival – Fine Arts and crafts, street market, food and music all to be held in Historical Fourth Ward Park on 6/27 – 6/28, 2015.
JULY
- Independence Celebration – 4th of July celebration at City Hall in East Point that offers Saluting the Red, White and Blue with a carnival, food, live music and a large fireworks show.
- Addams Family Musical – a live and musical version of the Addams Family adaptation of the TV show. An eventful night of theatre held from 7/10 – 8/16, 2015 at the OnStage Atlanta in Decatur.
- Food Festival– Held on 7/11, 2015 at Jim Miller Park in Marietta. Taste food from around the world, local restaurants, food trucks and caterers. There is also art and live music.
- Macon Film Festival – Large screening of independent films from around the world in historic theatres downtown from 7/16 – 7/19, 2015. Film workshops and celebrity guest appearances. Another festival on 7/31 at Gwinnett Center in Duluth.
- Dance and Drum Festival – An African heritage festival of drums and dancing. Classes, arts and crafts and live shows. Held on 7/24 – 7/26, 2015 at Morehouse College.
- Atlanta Open– Televised annual men’s tennis tournament held at Atlantic Station on 7/25 – 8/2, 2015.
- Fashion Week– Atlanta International Fashion Week is a showcase of Atlanta’s top and elite designers and models in the fashion industry. Live runway fashion show, entertainment, celebrities and networking events and classes. Held at 200 Peachtree 7/28 – 8/2, 2015
- Horse Show– Ticket to Ride free Benefit Horse Show, with over 170 horses, live music, vendors and entertainment at Willis Park Equestrian Center in Alpharetta.
- Bluegrass Festival – Dozens of Bluegrass bands will perform at the Raccoon Creek Bluegrass Festival near Dallas, GA from 7/10 – 7/11, 2015.
- Zombie Pub Crawl – Held at Diesel Filling Station on 7/25/15 must be 21 and up. Zombies will invade pubs and restaurants along N Highland Ave., tickets include drinks and food discounts and zombie makeup.
This summer our city will be overflowing with entertainment and loads of activities. There is something for everyone.
